I have always been fascinated by the thuja hedge – that ubiquitous, carefully trimmed wall that defines so much of residential life. Photographed frontally and in black and white, each hedge becomes a subject on its own right: a portrait of control masquerading as horticulture. What lies behind remains invisible, protected, imagined. The series asks what it means to sculpt a border with such care, and what that care is really defending against.
